FAQs

What is the cancellation policy?2023-07-03T08:20:55+00:00

In normal circumstances, if you have to cancel your booking, the deposit is non-returnable. If you cancel after paying the balance we will refund the balance if we are able to re-let the same period. If we cannot do this, we will refund half of the balance.

If we have to cancel your booking we will refund the deposit and any balance paid. Normal circumstances include any weather-related cancellations.

Are pets allowed?2020-11-03T20:24:11+00:00

Yes, but dogs MUST be kept on leads and not allowed to run freely outside the house. The cottage is surrounded by sheep farming and it is imperative that we and our guests remain on good terms with the neighbouring farmer. There is a sheep dip 30 metres from the house, at the end of the drive. The farmer has the right to bring his sheep and dogs through the yard to use the dip, which happens two or three times a year.

Can I pitch a tent?2020-11-03T20:23:56+00:00

A small tent can be pitched on the grass in front of the house.

How do I get to Pout Howe?2021-02-18T10:08:08+00:00

Full travel directions and details on finding the house will be provided before your visit. The house is about 30 minutes drive from Kendal.  Click here to view Google Map.

I’ve booked, what should I take with me?2023-07-03T08:53:13+00:00

You do not need to bring your own bedding. Duvets, pillows, blankets, sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers are provided for all beds. Towels and tea towels are also provided. The only exception is the travel cot, for which you will need to bring your own duvet and bedding. If you want to use the sofa bed you will need to make the bed up yourself; spare bedding is stored in the large wardrobes in the upstairs bedrooms. You should bring washing up liquid and toilet rolls.

For more information see the Pout Howe page.

The weather is bad, what should I do?2021-02-06T15:19:09+00:00

Embrace it! Rain is to be expected in the Lakes.

However, if snow or ice is forecast please park at the top of the hill, before reaching the second gate, unless you have a four wheel drive. The slope down to the house from the second gate is steep, so in snowy or icy conditions it can be difficult for a non-four wheel drive to get up the hill. More information will be provided with your booking details.

Is there a TV/internet at the house?2021-02-15T12:38:36+00:00

Wifi internet is available at the house for guests to use. However, there is no television and no reliable mobile phone reception, when not connected to wifi. There is a landline with answerphone, on which UK-only calls may be made. Please put £1 per 10 minutes in the honesty box.
